Since May 2016 at Martelletto there has been a pair of kestrels nesting in an annex of our farm, and every year it gives us the wonder of a hatch and the first flight of one of their young. A not-to-be-missed opportunity for those who love birdwatching, moreover in the Marche region included in the best destinations in the world for the Best in Travel 2020 by Lonely Planet
This year has been special!
For a good two hours I had a penny-balded bird perched on the fence of our terrace. I had time to take confidence, chat, approach, and photograph it from every angle and distance possible.
Always respecting his condition of fear, because the dummy must have taken a first flight from the den to the fence, but then he could not find the courage to take the next step (or better, flap of wings) to reach the majestic walnut that dominates our property in the lower part.
They have been beautiful hours, because it doesn’t happen every day to be so close to an animal that first of all flies and second is notoriously shy.
Who knows if now, when he flutters over my head, he will recognize me and think that I’m the guy who made idiotic verses and urged him to take the reckless flight? I like to think of yes, because I am a dreamer.
